Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) are mandatory for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. By implementing an ILP allows both the student and teacher to focus on achievable goals that utilise a student’s way of learning, their aspirations and abilities. The use of and ILP works as a support system that involves the student, teacher and parents who work together to create a working program of achievable and agreed outcomes in education. As Shillingford (2011) states “All students are born with unique gifts. Quality teaching depends on knowing how to develop each gift and expect nothing but the highest of quality"
